a morning at mcdonald’s

March 27, 2012

I went to McDonald’s today, the golden arches glimmering in the sunlight but its a trick of the eye.  It was nowhere near spring according to the temps. In the morning it was a cold, brrr, winter chill of 35 degrees, at the end of MARCH.

Last week was too much a tease of the summer that is far, far away.

I took the kids to McDonald’s because the brother-in-law had to work the dead shift last night from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. this morning and having three kids under the age of 5 in the house while a man sleeps.  Uh-uh. Not going to happen at all.

We got to McD’s and the kids went wild in the PlayPlace.

After about an hour, they got hungry but lunch time was still about an hour away.  They kept on playing.

While there, another mom came in with her nephew, niece, and neighbor to give their moms a break from them.  We need more people like that in our lives. Always.

So as I was talking with this woman, she was telling me about her life. How she endured abuse from her husband. She was married to him for 21 years and left him about 2 years ago.  The kids still see their dad but she has nothing to do with him and she is happier than she has ever been in her life.

to be continued…
