tell the believing women to lower their gaze

January 19, 2011

I never understood the desire that some people have when it comes to how they portray themselves to the rest of the world.  If you dress like a respectable person, you will get treated like one.  If you dress to be sexy, you will get sexy comments and suggestions from the opposite sex.   There is no truth in the statement that you can dress anyway you want and not get harassed or go unnoticed.

Serena Williams has repeatedly dressed beyond appropriate on the playing field.  Her clothing has been beyond revealing.  When people are more focused on your attire than your game, you know you have issues.   Don’t take my word for it. Check it out yourself.

One reason why I find what she is wearing so uncomfortable is because of my religion of Islam.  Islam tells women and men to dress and carry themselves with dignity and respect.

Allah Ta’ala says in the Quran: “And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts from sin and not show of their adornment except only that which is apparent, and draw their headcovers over their necks and bosoms and not reveal their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons, their husbands’ sons, their brothers, or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their women (i.e., their sisters in Islam), or their female slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants free of physical desires, or small children who have no sense of women’s nakedness. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And turn unto Allah altogether, O you Believers, in order that you may attain success.[An-Nur, 24:31]

So then are all women supposed to be subjugated to the edicts of Islam?

certain rules are in place by allah, the supreme being of the world, to protect us, whether we realize it or not is up to us…you be the judge.

Yeah, I think I know what you’re saying, I have pretty strong views on modesty too (for girls AND guys…)
Anyways, I’m not sure why some people want to dress like Serena Williams, it looks rather unattractive to me.
